ROBERT HUNTER has become chairman of the Atlas Express Group, taking over from Dick Farmer who becomes life president. At the same time Jack Brown retires from the Atlas board.
Mr Hunter joined Atlas in 1973, from an accountancy background. As group chairman he will have responsibility for all the operating companies and will be particularly involved in the national parcels carriers division, Atlas Express.
Dick Farmer and Jack Brown joined the Atlas Group in 1935. Their joint involvement spanned the Second World War, nationalisation, denationalisation and worldwide depression.
Mr Brown intends to maintain his activities as crime prevention and security consultant to the transport industry. He is chairman of the Road Haulage Association's security committee and is a lecturer at the Home Office Crime Prevention Centre.
