Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO YEARS after the introduction of the Marinabased 7cwt and 10 cwt carderived vans, British Leyland have this week announced a 1 Ocwt pick-up version.

Most of the chassis components are common to the larger payload capacity van and, as standard, the pick-up is supplied with de luxe trim and equipment and with the 1275cc `A'-series engine.

The all-steel integral construction body has doubleskinned load-space sides and ash rubbing strips along the upper edge of the body sides and tailgate.

Hinged stays support the open tailgate which can be used as a flush extension to the 1.7 m (5.7 ft) long loadspace floor; the rear number plate and lampholder is hinged to permit driving with the tailgate down. The enclosed volume of the loadspace to waist level is approximately 1 cum (36 cu ft). The cab has hinged doors with anti-burst locks, a zebra-zoned toughened windscreen and safety glass windows, including a fullwidth rear one. The specification also includes driver and passenger seats, fullwidth floor mat, sun visors, heater and face-level ventilation.

The four-cylinder 1275cc engine is offered in low 8 to 1 ratio form and gross output (DIN) is 41kW (55 bhp) at 5,500rpm and torque 89.5 Nm (661b ft) at 2,500 rpm.

Drive is transmitted via the 203 mm (8 in) diameter single-plate clutch, fourspeed synchromesh gearbox and two-speed propeller shaft to the three-quarter floating 4.556 to 1 rear axle: gear ratios are 3.412. 2.112, 1.433 and 1 to 1 forward, 3.753 to 1 reverse.

The front suspension features improved torsion bars with revised lever-type dampers, and at the rear the pick-up has conventional semi-elliptic leaf-springs backed up with telescopic dampers.

Rack and pinion stetring is specified and hydrElically operated 229 mm (9in) diameter drum brakes are fitted all round, two-leadingshoe units at the front and leading and trailing-shoe units at the rear.

A 12-Volt negative earth electrical system with 40Ah battery and 16ACR alternator is used and the usual warning lights are incorporated in the dash layout.

A 52-litre ( 11.5 gal) fuel tank is supplied as standard and unladen vehicle weight, ready for the road, is 852 kg (0.84-tons). The vehicle is designed to operate at a gross weight of 1.5 tonnes. It costs £1,141 exclusive of VAT.
