NEWS of the death of LDoY finalist Mr Derek Bland, killed with his wife when a tree fell on his vehicle on the way to the National Finals, brought a swift reaction from drivers at Bramcote.

A spontaneous collection brought a total of £200, donated towards the care of his young son and daughter. By Monday, Southern BRS Ltd, his employer, had received a total of £460 from many sources. The company said this week that it would be taking financial responsibilities for Mr Bland's children. .
