WHAT IS claimed to be the only 20seater coach body designed for full psv operation on the UK market is announced today by Moseley Continental Coachwork Ltd, of Loughborough. Called the Faro, it is built in Portugal by the Caetano concern. The new model is based on a modified version of Bedford's J2 frontengined chassis.
Modifications to the chassis include moving the steering box to give full forward control. For the same reason the gear selector, handbrake, throttle, clutch and footbrake are all repositioned. This work is done in Portugal at the Caetano factory. Construction of the body follows the pattern set on the larger Caetano models, with a corrosion-proofed all-metal, welded box-section frame and steel stress panels running from window to floor level at each side. Lower panels are in alloy. There is a one-piece roof with grp front and rear panels.
The new model is offered with both petrol and diesel engines (the Show model will have Bedford's 220 Cu in diesel unit). Main dimensions are: length, 5.9m (19ft I 1/2 in); width, 2.2m (7 ft 41/2 in); height, 2.8 m (9 ft 1n); step heights, 1st 330 mm (13 in); 2nd and 3rd, 254mm (10 in); door width, 597 mm (231/2 in); unladen weight, 4410 kg (4.3 tons).
A non-powered two-piece folding door is fitted. This unit has a securitâ– lock to prevent unauthorised openini from the outside. The vehicle has beet granted a CoF.
At next week's Earls Court shov Moseley will be exhibiting two othe vehicles beside the Faro. One of thes( will be the latest version of the integra version of the Bedford YRQ which it ha been pioneering. Improvements includl a new exhaust system and improve sound deadening at the rear. The thirc vehicle, an Estoril II body on Fon R1114 chassis, will feature a brand nev nitro-synthetic paint finish for sidl flashes. This has a reflective quality t( enhance night safety but retains smart shiny finish in daylight.
