Another example of sang froid came from the late Lord Teynham when he was replying to a speech by the chairman at the annual dinner-dance of the former Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association. As I took notes it was borne in upon me that I had heard the speech before — and recently. Lord Teynham had the same thought at the same moment.
Without batting an eyelid he laid down the chairman's notes, picked up his own and continued his speech with perfect fluency.
