Donald Atwood is the new operational head at General Motors' Detroit Diesel Allison Division, since his appointment as general manager on September 1. He succeeds James Knott as vice president of General Motors as well as controller of the Allison Division.

As general manager, Mr Atwood will be in charge of more than 28,000 employees — General Motors' fourth largest division in terms of manpower.

Four new area sales managers have joined A. H. P. Trailers Ltd. Dennis Hawkens and John Ripley were both previously with York Trailers Ltd, and are now responsible for North and West Yorkshire and Lancashire, and South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire respectively.

Richard Meek comes to A. H.P. from Trailor Ltd, as area sales manager for East Anglia. He is based at the parts workshop and sales offices at Thetford.

W. 0. Field, whose experience includes M & G and Trailor, is now area sales manager for Hereford, Gloucester and the West Country.

Bernard Commons has been promoted within the National Bus Company and joins East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd on November 1 as assistant chief engineer. He is at present technical assistant with West Riding Automobile Co Ltd where he has worked since 1975.

David Ashley has been promoted within the Brockhouse Group, from divisional marketing and planning director, to assistant divisional managing director of the engineering section. His new post will give him control of all the companies in the general engineering division as well as responsibility for marketing and planning.

Sean Blanco has been promoted to works director at Motor Panels (Coventry) Ltd, after five years service.

Previously works manager, Mr Blanco will now be responsible for all production at the company's Coventry factory.

Leslie Tolley, chairman of Renold Ltd and Fodens, took over as chairman of Council of the British Institute of Management at its annual general meeting last week. He succeeds Sir Derek Ezra and will serve as chairman for two years.

Cecil Crosthwaite, deputy chairman of the Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority since it was established in 1966, has resigned from the Authority through ill-health.

The Associated Engineering Group has appointed two new main board directors, they are K. Corcoran, managing director of AE's Replacement Parts Marketing and Distributing division, and W. Everitt, managing director of AE's Bearings division. Greater Glasgow PTE has a television journalist as its new public relations officer. He is, Gerry Dunne, who joins the undertaking next month.

Mr Dunne is editor of Scottish Television's evening news magazine programme Scotland Today. Before joining STV in 1971, he was on the staffs of the Scottish Daily Mail, Daily Record, and Sunday Mail.

Birmingham firm, Prestage Ltd, part of the Mitchell Cotts Group, has expanded its sales force by recruiting two new sales executives. They are John Cooke aftd Tony Rice who will both work from the company's recently reorganised Centre in Eyre Street, Birmingham.

William Summerell has joined Commercial Truck Services as service manager from the Transfleet Organisation, where he held a similar position.

West Midlands PTE's Apprentice of the Year is fourth-year fitter, Gerry Poole. He received the Eric Jenkins Trophy at the annual apprentices prize giving.
