SPECIAL trailers upon which complete Maycrete houses may be carried have been designed and built for the Basrah Petroleum Co., Ltd. These buildings measure 30 ft. by 20 ft. and are suppled to company employees so that they may live on site. Often, however, houses have to be moved from one site to another.
R. A, Dyson and Co., Ltd., Grafton Street, Liverpool, have produced a type of trailer able to negotiate uneven terrain while carrying a load of up to 15 tons. A Maycrete house, unfurnished, weighs some 12 tons. The platform dimensions of the trailer are. 31 ft. by 11 ft. 6 in. Suspension is by four short oscillating axles to each of which a pair of wheel's is attached. Air brakes. are fitted.
A Scammell Constructor six-wheeldrive vehicle was used to tow the trailer at a demonstration at Heston Airport last week, The house was jacked up and the trailer run in beneath it. The loading--level was 4 ft. 3 in. The load was lashed to the trailer and the cross-country capabilities of . the outfit were made apparent during a drive over some rough, wet ground, The Scammell carried 23 tons of ballast.
