A HAULIER who applied to Maj. 1-.1 F. S. Eastwood, Yorkshire Licensing Authority, last week to add an eightwheeled tipper to his A licence, was granted his request subject to the deletion of an existing vehicle.

Maj. Eastwood commented that this would not cause difficulty. It had been said ,that one of the vehicles was in bad condlition because the applicant had been too busy to maintain it properly.

Mr. R. A. Webb, for the British Transport Commission, who objected, questioned theā€¢ applicant, Mr. G. D. SIeightholme, Mahon, as to why his earnings for 1959 showed an increase over those for 1958 whilst his tonnage carried had declined. , An increase in charges and the operation of longer journeys to Liverpool were given as the reasons. Mr. I. F. Dales, of the York office of the railways, refuted allegations that rail deliveries to Liverpool from Market Weighton took four or five days. There was now no shortage of wagons, he said.

NEW HAULAGE CONCESSIONS START TODAY

UNDER R.H.(68), which comes into force today, the extra 8d. an hour payable to night haulage workers will become due for all work starting after 7 p.m., instead of 9 p.m., and will continue until 6 a.m. It will not be payable for spells of duty starting before 7 p.m. and finishing not later than 9 p.m.

A man who works on a customary holiday will also receive a day off at ordinary rates in lieu of the holiday, as well as double time for the work done. The day off must be taken within four weeks after the holiday.
