I-1 A NEW range of bus and truck body
work and chassis for European operators will be produced as a result of co-operation between A.E.C., Ltd., and N.V. Auto-Industrie Verheul, Holland. Sir William Black, chairman of A.E.C., and Mr. J. D. Slater, commercial director of the company, travelled to Holland on Wednesday to complete arrangements.
The Dutch organization will be responsible for sales and service of A.E.C. vehicles in the Netherlands from October 1. The factory at Waddinxveen is to be extended to cope with the new developments.
LOG BOOK ABOLITION CALLED FOR
ACALL for the abolition of the need to keep log books for battery-electric vehicles was made at the annual conference of the National Dairymen's Association, at Harrogate this week.
The conference recommended that full support be given to the "one-for-all" drivers' log book certificate for vehicles operating retail delivery rounds on a limited mileage.
The Association, which represents nearly 7,000 dairymen in England and Wales, also called for the introduction of a new group on the driving licence to cover drivers of electric vehicles.
NEW TRAFFIC COMMII LE. 'THE desirability of forming a national traffic committee will be considered at a meeting of the Wolverhampton Area of the Traders Road Transport Association at the Town Hall Hotel, Wolverhampton, next Monday.
Other subjects for consideration are the Road Traffic and Road Improvements Bill, and a proposal to abolish drivers' records in connection with regular deliveries within a limited radius. Mr. C. N. Healey will give a talk on vehicle insurance.
I.o.T. PRESIDENT ELECTED
pRESIDENT of the Institute of Transport for the year 1960-61 is Mr. K. W. C. Grand, formerly general manager of the Western Region of British Railways and now a member of the British Transport Commission. Mr. Grand is a vice-president of the Institute and previously served on the council from 1944-47 and 1956-59.
A.C.V. RESULTS IMPROVED E directors of Associated'Commercial Vehicles, Ltd., announced on Tuess/ay that the results for the halfyear ended March 31 last showed a satisfactory improvement on those of last year. Orders from both home and overseas users had increased.
AIR-BORNE JET BUSES SOON THE use, in the near future, of jetpropelled wingless buses was forecast in the House of Lords on Tuesday by Lord Ogmore. He said that the Civil Aviation (Licensing) Bill, which the House was considering, completely ignored this development.
