bid to speed up the Government's £23 billion road building programme. A new agency will oversee planning and construction work, which currently takes up to13 years to complete for a trunk road. MacGregor says the move will benefit the freight transport industry, particularly the supermarket sector making justin-time deliveries. The agency will also oversee the trunk road network.
FTA director-general Garry Turvey says: "It is essential that the new agency has powers to manage the road network for maximum efficiency. Uncoordinated road works must become history."
