• The activities of Devon operator Bryan's Haulage are under the spotlight with a police investigation described by insiders as "very substantial".
It is understood that the operation has been dubbed Operation Outbrave, with the bulk of the investigation starting in January with a swoop on Bryan's Haulage's Northlew premises and the removal of thousands of tachograph charts by police.
The final dossier has not yet been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service which will have to decide what charges, if any, will be brought, and if so, against whom.
The company refuses to corn merit on the investigation or the alleged condition of some of the seized tacho charts.
Bryan's Haulage is run by a husband and wife team, directors Mr and Mrs Bryan. It operates around 30 vehicles from its Northlew site.
The fleet of articulated reefers run throughout the UK, according to the Road Haulage Association's 1991/92 National Directory.
Operation Outbrave has been a
joint investigation by Okehampton police and VI traffic examiners. The size of the investigation is generally acknowledged as large because of the time and funding from both enforcement authorities.
