BODYWORK alterations, to give a 1-.0 lower, smarter appearance and better visibility for the driver, are the main differences between the new Series II Commer Cob 7-cwt. van, announced on Wednesday, and its predecessor. The Series 11 Cob has a new gearbox with closer ratios than before and is stated to provide faster, more positive gearchanging by the short gear lever fitted.

Windscreen area is increased by onefifth and the width of the screen pillars is reduced. Chromium-plated headlamp cowls and a wider radiator grille modify the frontal design, whilst a new roof pressing lowers the overall height by 1-1 in. and provides vestigial peaks over the windscreen and rear door.

Transverse corrugations in. this panel increase rigidity, eliminate drumming and ensure that rain flows into the side guttering rather than down the larger rear window. Internally the van has a redesigned driver's seat and the parcels tray beneath the dashboard has been lowered.

The gearbox has ratios of 3.346, 2.141, 1.392 and I to 1 forward and 4.239 to 1 reverse, compared with 3.187, 2.47, 1.49, 1 and 4.047 to 1 on the previous model. Otherwise the chassis is unchanged, except that the 1,390 c.c. engine now has a castiron crankshaft and full-flow oil filtration. The van is offered in six standard colours and the price is unchanged at £430 basic.
