Light 8 Steering AN appreciable improvement has been made to the steering of the Guy Warrior Light 8 eight-wheeler. In the road-test report of this model in The Commercial Motor dated February 19, adverse comments were made about the heaviness of the steering, particularly at low speeds and even more so when reversing.

At the time it was known that a different type of steering gear was to be tried, and a chassis so equipped has been driven and found to be much better in this respect, writes John F. Moon.

Burman recirculating-ball steering with a ratio of 30 to I replaces the original Marles cam-and-double-roller 28.5-to-I equipment, and no changes have been made to "the steering linkages or axles. The Burman unit is being specially made for Guy Motors, Ltd., so that it is corn

pletely interchangeable with the Marles box.

The Warrior Light 8 is now a noticeably less tiring vehicle to drive, an added advantage to the light steering being that a useful degree of castor action is given. Tight corners may be taken slowly without any more effort being necessary on the steering wheel than with the majority of other eight-wheelers without power assistance. • It was noted, however, that the relatively small change in the steering-gear ratio seemed to add appreciably to the number of turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock.

When reversing, it is now a simple matter to turn the steering wheel from one lock to the other, whereas with the original installation this rnanceuvre was difficult.
