HAVE READ with interest Mr ibert Walls' letter about the TITB (CM, February 21). As I am a chargehand fitter iorking on heavy vehicles I do now of the pressures that can e placed on various staff in the -ansport business, so would like ) comment on a few points. If Mr Walls does not like the TITB, then what in his view is le alternative?
If Mr Walls can hardly spare is staff time for leave, then, iith respect, he is understaffed. In reply to Mr Walls' fitter's omment of "find an instructor ,ho has changed a diff on the orkshire Moors on a wet and /Indy night," I would say: has e read the Employment of oung People Act?
If his apprentice is trained orrectly (and I say this must )clude day release courses) lere should be no need to go ut on the Yorkshire Moors to hange a diff.
With all the pressure he would ke us to believe that he and his taff are under, who is actually oing his training?
I would say, Mr Walls, that you riould at least let your lad go on ay release courses. Because om my own experience.it is ist not possible to give all aining in the workshop nvironment.
