A FO spokesman told CM that a local lawyer has been appointed to act for Mr Barnes, who was unlikely to come to trial for at least another month because the Moslem festival of Ramadan was still in progress.
The FO said that acting British Consul, Mr Arnold Dearing, had seen Mr Barnes in the past few weeks.
