No supplementary rations for the purposes of retail delivery will be granted unless applicants can show that the goods are essential to the maintenance of the war effort or of the life of the community,' that they must be delivered by road, and _that all reasonable steps have been taken by the groups to which they belong to pool their vehicles where this is practicable or to rationalize their use. WHERE ROAD TRANSPORT CAN SAVE FOOD

nWING to official control preventing rbad motors from carrying fish and other foods from distant ports great wastage had. occurred, said Alderman George Hall at last week's meeting of the Manchester City Council. He quoted a recent case of thousands of boxes of mackerel being three days overdue and sail that when it arrived the fish was unMt to eat. Had road transport been employed this waste would not have occurred.
