• A Cardiff haulier who appeared before the South Wales LA last week to show cause why his 0 licence should not be revoked, had the number of vehicles on it reduced from six and a margin of two, to three with a margin of one; the period of his licence was curtailed from November 1976 by four years to 1972.

"I have got to treat this matter most seriously because you have demonstrated you have little control over your drivers or your maintenance and that is what operators' licences are all about," Mr Ronald R. Jackson told Mr William Alfred Page, of Llanrumney, Cardiff, who trades as W. P. Page.

Referring to one of three vehicles for which prohibition notices had been issued. Mr Page said it had been involved in an accident and had been left to await inspection by an insurance assessor. Two

drivers took the vehicle out without authority.

Mr Page told the LA it was difficult to keep a tight check on drivers one had to employ on coal. "It is not everyone who will stay on this type of job. shovelling coal in the wet and the winter." he said.

Licence curtailed

• Following a hearing under Section 69 of the Transport Act 1968 at Birmingham on Monday, W. H. Brown had an operator's licence authorizing two vehicles plus one to be acquired, curtailed. Mr John Else. the West Midland LA. removed one vehicle plus the one to be acquired but made a condition that he would be prepared to authorize one other vehicle if W. H. Brown could show within three months that satisfactory maintenance facilities existed.
