• George Ewer and Co Ltd group turnover for the year ended January 3 1970
amounted to £4,049,036—an increase over the previous year's figure which was £3,884,263. But group profit after taxation was down at £71,306 (1969: £131,961).
The annual report says that in common with other express service operators, it suffered as a result of the continuing decline in summer peak weacend traffic for holidays in the UK. The growth in traffic from foreign tourists continued and haulage had a reasonable year.
"New legislation governing drivers' hours has had," it says, "the effect of reducing the productivity of our driving staff by about one-seventh."
