Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TRAILER rental companies are foreseeing a boom in the rental business as more and more operators find it impossible to fund the replacement of both vehicles and trailers.

Trailerent managing director Mike Dibb told CM this week that operators were putting their money into new ;tractive units rather than investing in sometimes highly specialised trailers.

He said that the market for curtain-sided trailers was facing rapid expansion. "Four years ago general hauliers had their own market and customers, now they find they have to take on anything and that can mean specialised trailers."

Trailerent has been in existence for only a year but already its fleet has expanded to 900 trailers — twice the anticipated size and Mr Dibb is expecting to add up to another 700 trailers in the next year.

"Hauliers are beginning to realise that rentals are a very sensible alternative to buying their own equipment — and if you look closely at our rates you will see that in real terms trailer rental rates have not increased for two years," said Mr Dibb.
