THE CONDITION of the M cross-Pennines motorway being investigated by the E partment of Transport. T Department has admitted a the motorway — just fi years old — "seems to crumbling".
Tests were started followi the severe winter. But t worst section, which is ct rently being studied, is a from the M62-A1 juncti eastwards to the junction w the M18.
The section immediately the west of this in the Cast ford area is already subject mining subsidence and has undulating surface with st able warning signs.
