Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BRAKING regulations have been amended to allow trailers over 750kg (14.8cwt) gross weight to remain unbraked until October 1, 1986 if their unladen weight does not exceed 102kg (2cwt) and they were built before October 1 last year.

A trailer must be fitted with brakes if: • Its maximum gross weight exceeds 750kg and its unladen weight exceeds 102kg • Its maximum gross weight exceeds 750kg and it was built on or after October 1,1982 • Its laden weight on the road exceeds half the towing vehicle's kerbside weight (this does not apply to agricultural trailers or, until October 1, 1986, to trailers whose unladen weight does not exceed 102kg).

Two other changes in the latest amendment will benefit farmers. Land tractors will not have to comply with EEC braking requirements, and agricultural land implements that do not have to comply with braking regulations will be exempt from the requirement to carry weight markings.
