It is generally admitted that pure commercial aluminium is ,Leite unsuited for most engineering purposes, owing to the fact that it is too soft, has little tensile strength, and, moreover, is difficult to cast. After years of research work this company has produced an alloy termed Ivanittm, which it is claimed overcomes all the aforementioned imperfections, and which is being used in the engineering and electrical trades in increasing quantities.

It is n affected by sea water, organic acids or atmospheric conditions. Its tensile strength is 11.1 tons per square inch, which is ranch superior to that of ordinary cast aluminium.

It has been found by experiment that horse-hair is hardly a satisfactory medium for seat packing. Medical authorities also hold the opinion that there Is a tendency in this packing Lo be popular with infectious germs.

The Marshall Vi-spring seatings are provided with coppered spiral springs which take the place of horse-hair, flock, or other filling. The springs are built in calico housings, and each one has its own separate pocket so that there is no possibility of displacement.

Felting of varying thicknesses, according to the nature of the service of the seatings, is then utilized, and an outer fabric of any desired colour or texture is then attached. This form of seating is used by the leading motorbus cornpanics and chars-t.-bancs builders, Markt and Co. (London), Ltd.

The company has branch establishments in many principal towns throughout the world. With the space at our disposal we cannot, of course, give a full list of all the fittings which are stocked, but we may perhaps usefully call the attention of our Overseas readers to a few of them.

The Jones type of speedometer can be safely recommended for use on industrial vehicles. It has given entirely-satisfactory results, both under ordinary working conditions and when tested under temperatures varying from 16 degrees to 137 degrees Fahr. Even at the latter high temperature it was quite unaffected.

It is the desire of every user, of course, to exercise economy in fuel consumption. A well-proved fitting enabling this .C..0 be effected is the Speedier foci spring device, with which it is possible, so say the makers, to save as much as 40 per cent. in fuel consumption. It is claimed that the fitting atomizes the intake mixture to the very highest. degree of combustible value, and, what is equally important, supplies the engine with a perfectly homogeneous mixture.

Another useful accessory which we would briefly mention is the " Little Giant " spring leaf opener. This enables the main suspension springs to be easily and well lubricated— facilities which, it is to be regretted, are seldom available.

The company also markets the "Little Giant" wheel puller, a well-known and much-used accessory; it enables motorcar wheels very readily to be detached, and with the minimum amount of labour.

Watford speedometers and revolution recorders have been associated with the industry from its earliest days, and this company has had much prac-' tint experience, which enables it to market many reliable types of recording mechanisms, including pressure gauges.

This maker calls the particular attention of commercial-motor users to type 726 speedometer, the dial of which is calibrated up to 30 m.p.h. Incorporated with the fitting is a mileage counter, which will register up to 10,000. Fitted with an angle bracket, this accessory is readily attached to the dashboard, and the driving coup

Another speciality, which will appeal to chars-a-bancs. owners and others, is the combination, of speedometer and watch ; this registers speeds up to 60 m.p.h. The mileage counter is geared to register up to 100,000 miles, and then. repeats. Incorporated with the fitting is an eight-day watch of good qnality.

A very successful tyr., of taximeter is that marketed by this London house. Particular attention has been given to the production of a machine which should be practically incapable of making a mistake, and with which it it impossible to tamper.

This company's latest speciality is a mileometer, a type of instrument much appreciated by owners of motorvans, and, in fact, of all other classes of commercial vehicles, as it assists in keeping an accurate record of running costs and length of tire life.

The mechanism of this M.F.R. recorder is enclosed in a metallic case, and the transmission gear can be sealed so that it is impossible for the driver to interfere with it in any way. In addition, it is possible to use it for either trip or continuous records, according to requirements; it can only be altered by the owner when once it has been adjusted for the desired form of registration.
