Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ryder and 26 of its drivers have appeared before Walsall magistrates on drivers' hours charges just months after Wincanton was fined thousands of pounds for breaking the hours rules on the same contract.

Twenty four of Ryder's drivers pleaded guilty to a total of 57 offences while two denied a further three offences.

Ryder took over the raw milk contract with Avonmore Dairies from Wincanton after Wincanton, together with 1201 its drivers, were fined a total of £31,000 last January for similar offences.

During the Wincanton proceedings it had been alleged the managers told the drivers that no drivers' hours rules applied in the collection of raw milk.

At Walsall, Ryder pleaded guilty to permitting the offences by the drivers and to five offences of failing to produce tachograph records.

The magistrates adjourned sentencing proceedings until 16 November.
