Llanelli-based John Evans & Sons is winding down its 20-truck haulage operation with the loss of 20 jobs, beaten by higher fuel and road taxes and over-capacity in its grain, coal and metal delivery markets.
In its heyday the business ran 35 trucks with a turnover of 21.5m: managjng director Peter Evans says hopes of keeping the company running for at least another 10 years have been dashed by three years of breakeven or loss.
