Parceiforce Worldwide is investing £15m in 600 new vehicles.

The Post Office-run distribution company is increasing the size of its fleet by 200 to 7,900 as the new vehicles are rolled out over the next six months. The additions include 100 Leyland Daf FT85CF 4x2s; they will haul 13,4m tandem-axle Cartwright trailers. Most will be run at 28 tonnes with some at 32 tonnes and one at 38 tonnes.

A batch of 20 new shunters Will be put to work at depots in a bid to cut turnaround times.

A total of 388 3.5-tonners are also being replaced. LDV Convoy Hi-Loaders account for 148 of the vans; the rest are Iveco Daily 35.10s, all with electronically operated doors.

• Removals specialist Pickfords is also upgrading its fleet with 99 new vehicles at a cost of £4.6m. More than hail' the new chassis are Volvos. with 57 FL6s starting work across the UK and one FH12 joining the company's continental operation.

The Home Moving arm gets 40 of the FL6s and six MAN M2000 6x2 chassis with TVAC tag axles and Bevans container bodies. They all have specially designed Hatcher sleeper pods; most are dowriplated to 17 tonnes.

For urban removals the company is also acquiring 16 Daf 455, 17 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and two Renault Masters.

A batch of 17 4x2 Volvo FL6s are joining Pickfords' Business Moving fleet. Their factory sleeper cabs are modified by Longtons to seat up to five passengers while retaining the driver's bunk.
