They were also accused of handling another Mercedes-Benz stolen unit and concrete pump valued at £175,000.

Barrett also faced two further charges of dishonestly handling a stolen £30,000 Mercedes-Benz refrigerated delivery van, and dishonestly assisting in the retention, removal or disposal of a Volvo tipper, crane and bucket valued at £50,000.

The third accused, Michael Brown, 27, unemployed of Green Lane, Penge was accused of dishonestly receiving the same refrigerated delivery van. And he was accused of dishonestly handling a stolen £60,000 MercedesBenz tractor unit, a stolen Mercedes rigid and two pallets of wrapped paper worth £10,000. He also faced four further charges of dishonestly handling stolen scaffolding, poles and boards.

All the alleged offences are said to have occurred within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court on, or before, 25 November 1992.

A police raid at the end of November found eight skips containing gearboxes, engines and other parts, a £40,000 Volvo truck and two truck-mounted concrete pumps.
