• The Department of Transport plans to allow 44-tormers to travel the length of the country to and from railheads.
In the original consultation document on 44-tonners the DOT proposed that hauliers would be forced to collect from and deliver to their nearest rail terminal. tors more flexibility, but he does not expect a bonanza for hauliers who take advantage of the higher weight limit because travelling the length of the country in 44tanners would not be economic. 11 The draft legislation also extends the 4.2m drawbar height limit to 35.tonners; this limit was previously restricted to 32-tonne drawbars.
