Tf I told you this was a recent 'photo you should be puzzled. York axles are now
Hendrickson, couplers Aveling Barford. Tidy enough curtainsider, but mechanical tandem is a bit old fashioned.
The manufacturers nameplate says "Firama"—a small Italian trailer builder maybe?
In fact it runs between Penang in Malaysia and Singapore —and it doesn't pass too many curtainsiders on the way.
The body engineering was "exported" from the UK. York Asia won its independence when the UK company went bust.
Now making 1,000 axles per month, it is bigger than BPVii in South East Asia and its biggest customer base in mainland China.
