• Railfreight Distribution's new international container service looks set to be the first British rail freight company to be sold as part of the Government's privatisation programme.
The year-old Haulmark section is expected to become a limited company within two months ready for a passible sale in April next year. The final date for organisations to register interest in the sale was in July.
No other sections of BR's freight divisions—Railfreight Distribution and Trainload Freight—are so far advanced in the sell-off process.
Haulmark buys shipping space and road and rail capacity and sells its international container service to customers. A quick sale was expected because Hau!mark was earmarked for early privatisation at its launch.
