Spray equipment cleaner

DESIGNED to clean and dry the fluid _L./passages of spray guns, fluid hose, pressure-feed tanks, heat exchangers and pipe lines in dead-end paint distribution systems, a new cleaner has been introduced by The DeVilbiss Co. Ltd. that is designated the QZ and is operated by compressed air. Two metering valves control the supply of air and cleaning fluid, and the fluid is sealed-in when the equipment is not in use to eliminate evaporation. It is claimed that the mixture of air and fluid provides a powerful scrubbing action; pure air is used to dry-out the passages.

Voltage converter

ENABLING a trailer equipped with a 24V d.c. electrical system to be used with a tractive unit having a 12V d.c. system, a converter has been developed by Industrial Instruments Ltd., that is of the semi-conductor type and is known as the Transipack. The unit has no moving parts, is silent in operation and fits into a metal box 9 in. x 3 in. x 6 in.

A Transipack unit is also available having an input of 24V d.c. and an output of 12V d.c. Neither the input nor the output is earthed. Made by: Industrial Instruments Ltd., Stanley Road, Bromley, Kent.

Cover fastener

THE age old problem of fastening down temporary covers which have no eyelets is solved by a device made by Nipper (Plastic Supplies) Ltd. The device is called the Nipper and it is manufactured from polythene. It has a ring for tying down, a short neck around which the sheet can be fastened, and at the end of the neck, a substantial flange which prevents it from pulling away from the material doing the duty of a cover. Securing the Nipper is simplicity itself. The base of the flange is placed on the sheeting to be fastened at a minimum distance of 9 in. from the edge. The material is then gathered around the flange and a neoprene-rubber band is placed tightly over the neck. A lashing rope can then be passed through the eye and the sheet tied down or, alternatively a stake can be used to fasten it down tent-peg fashion.

The Nipper was developed particularly for use with plastic film sheeting and tests have proved that with 1,000g film, a strain of 180 lb. can be applied to the device before the plastic film starts to tear. One of the big advantages claimed for the Nipper is that it can be installed at any chosen position in the covering to be used so allowing difficult shapes to be accommodated. The makers recommend that nippers are used in a ratio of one to every 3 feet of border size of sheet to be secured. As the Unit is made of neoprene it will not rust, rot, scratch or damage in any way the item that is being protected.

pROVIDING automatic topping-up the sump, a new oil control unit hi been developed by Gardiner, Sons and C Ltd., which features a valve, connected the lubrication system, that prever topping-up when the engine is running al thus obviates over-filling. Operating on time-lag basis, the valve prevents filling un the engine has been stopped for sevei seconds, which allows the oil circulating the engine to return to the sump befc replenishment is possible.

The main components of the system col prise a small control unit, that is attached the sump and an oil reservoir, the norrr capacity of which is 1.75 gal. A slee supply valve in the unit is operated by float of sealed polystyrene and a sight-tu provides for checking the reservoir lev The connecting hoses are of PVC mated and are braided with Terylene.
