A NEW model in the tilt-cab FJ range
will be one of the 27 Austin and Morris Thiele types to be exhibited at Earls Court his year. It is a 17-ton-gross tractive unit vith the 5.7-litre BMC diesel engine deveaping 105 b.h.p. and the five-speed gearbox .nd is equipped with a 6.14/8.54:1 twopeed axle and 8.25-20 14-ply tyres. The model is designated FJ K340 and is designed or use with an automatic coupling. The xample at Earls Court will be an Austin, vith Taskers coupling, finished to BRS 'arcels specification.
The 18-ton-g.t.w. FJ tractive unit remains .1 the range, alongside the 5-, 7and 8-ton rucks, while a 10 ft. 11 in. wheelbase is added o the 8-ton FJ K160 models (as first revealed n COMMERCIAL MOTOR on June 3) and 'orms an intermediate version suitable for ippers and tankers as well as specialized nunicipal vehicles; a Morris model will be :xhibited.
Another newcomer to the home market, hough already offered overseas, is a 7-ton fersion of the normal-control WF series, a .turdy chassis available in 151 in., 161 in. ind 181 in. wheelbases.
BMC announce for the Show that Austin ind Morris J4 M10 10/12 cwt. vans have aeen modified to provide a flatter floor and ower bulkhead by lowering the engine air iuct, so that walk-across facilities in the :ab are better and the load area is more :asily reached.
A particularly interesting exhibit on the kustin stand will be a Primrose-converted ;J K100 5-tonner which gains extra payload :apacity by becoming a 6 x 2 model and is an "low-loading" 8.25-17 tyres. This Thiele has a BMC two-speed axle.
