Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Thornycroft

ALTHOUGH normally used as the basis for a fire/crash tender the Nubian made by Transport Equipment (Thornycroft) Ltd. will be featured at the Commercial Motor Show as a tractive unit. A 6 X 6 model will be exhibited in conjunction with a 24ft.-long single-axle semi-trailer from the Scammell Challenger "S" range. The Nubian 6 X 6 has a Rolls-Royce eight-cylinder 6.52-litre petrol engine which produces 197 b.h.p. and the transmission is through a five-speed synchromesh main gear box and two-speed transfer gear box which incorporates air-operated selection of front-wheel drive.

Also due to be seen on the Thornycroft stand is the Nubian Major 6 x 6 airfield fire tender introduced at the 1964 Commercial Show but this time it will have a Carmichael cab, body and fire-fighting equipment. The Cummins V8 300 b.h.p. engine in the model drives through a Self-Changing Gears 18-in. fluid clutch and RV38 semi-automatic fivespeed epicyclic main gear box to a two-speed constant mesh transfer box which is also used to engage front-wheel drive.

Like the Nubian this model has a twospring fully articulating rear bogie and double reduction axles and single tyres are fitted all round. A third exhibit by Thornycroft will also have semi-automatic transmission. This is to be a Big Ben 6 X 4 oilfield tractor with a Rolls-Royce six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 300 b.h.p. The gear box is an SCG RV30 with eight forward speeds and two reverse. Completing the Thomycroft display will be a selection of heavy-duty vehicle gear boxes.
