HE Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority, 1 Mr. L. A. Wells, heard an application at Cirkcaldy last week by W. D. Houston and ions, Langdykes, Leven, Fife for an A icence to authorize six vehicles at 261 tons o carry goods mainly for J. W. and D. kdamson, quarrymasters, Auchtermuchty, md Hamlyn and Co. Ltd., Cupar, within icotland. The application was made on the inderstanding that a Contract A licence for our vehicles to carry goods for J. W. and D. kdamson, and another for two vehicles on vhalf of Hamlyn, would be surrendered.

The applicants were represented by Mr. R. :urrie, solicitor, Dunfermline, and the ipplication was opposed by BRS Ltd., and our of the largest operators in the area.

Mr. J. J. Houston, a partner in the applicant irm, presented figures to show contract 'chicle earnings and combined B and Conract A earnings. No figures were produced o show the extent to which the A vehicles ilready licensed were employed. Mr. Houston igreed that he could probably manage to :ater for both customers with something less han six vehicles.

After an adjournment requested to allow ill parties to consider the application, Mr. :urrie withdrew the application and explained o Mr. Wells that he now intended to apply for B licence to authorize four vehicles under a :onditi on which met the present objections.

Clbjectors withdraw

OUR objectors to an application by a Newport firm to change its Contract A cence to a B licence had agreed to withdraw heir objections subject to certain conditions, he South Wales Licensing Authority was Did in Cardiff last week.

The applicants, Marshall and Gallear, ransport contractors of Liswerry Road, 4ewport, Mon., were granted permission to hange their Contract A licence in respect of ye vehicles for a B licence. They agreed to 5strict loading to quarry materials for Danyraig Quarries Ltd. within a radius of 40 miles nd to bricks for the neighbouring Danygraig :rick Company as required.
