THE pensions of Dunlop operatives in this country are to be doubled. Those who agree to double their present contributions as from January l next

depending on length of service, receive, in the case of men, up to £2 per week at the age of 60, and up to about £2 15s. if they remain until 65. Women will receive up to £1 8s. 4d. at 55 and up to £11 Is. at 60.

The company will match the new contributions and, in addition, will finance the amount required to double the pension for service before 1956, thus ensuring that pensions to operatives retiring after January. 1 will be doubled.

The Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., instituted contributory pensions for operative employees in 1938. For a contribution of Is. per week, employees could qualify for a maximum pension benefit for men at 60 of £1 per week, and of 10s. per week for women at age 55.

In 1950, the company added a noncontributory widows' and orphans' pension scheme and the new arrangement will also have the effect of increasing the pensions of future beneficiaries under this scheme.

NEW W. YORKS ROUTES

THE West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., are planning new services between Scarborough and Bradford and Newark, The company have applied to the Yorkshire Licensing Authority to operate a service between Scarborough and Bradford daily throughout the year. The ScarboroughNewark service, which would be operated jointly with other bus companies, would be run on Fridays, Saturdays. Sundays and Mondays from the beginning of July until mid-September.
