Barry Cannel! from Norwichbased Cannell Transport says it's been taking over an hour and a half to book in. and the situation is getting worse: "It is absolutely horrendous the way hauliers are treated. They keep on saying it's because of a lack of resources but this is just a lazy excuse.

"The delays are putting many operators out of business," he warns. "We have been forced to park up two out of our six trucks due to the delays."

However, Justin Zantboer, transport manager at W Carter Haulage. says that while his firm also has problems at Felixstowe, the delays are no worse now that they were 10 years ago.

Paul Davey, corporate affairs manger at Felixstowe. admits that there were problems in the summer due to staff shortages but says that things have improved greatly in recent weeks: "We have a target of getting people tipped within 40 minutes and are currently running at 42 minutes: often less than this."
