THE FIRST Driver of the Month under the Department for Transport's Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) programme is Chris Matthews, who drives for Thomas Silvey of Bristol. The company, which put 10 drivers through the free training scheme, says fuel economy improved by 7%. The company is hoping for annual fuel savings of 6%. equating to about £7.000.
