• RHA director-general Steven Norris (left) says his organisation intends to stand side by side with hauliers caught up in any future strikes by French haulage unions (CM 25 September-1 October).

He is adamant that RHA officials will be at the frontline, taking numbers and names of hauliers caught up in any action. "We will also have photographers there," says Norris. "We will be compiling evidence to give to the French authorities to prevent the compensation

problems experienced by the strikes first time round."

This pledge has been greeted warmly by international hauliers. Paul Woodward, European commercial manager of Mike Beer Transport, says: "It's a good idea. It's great to see them getting out there and helping our hauliers."

Willie Cook, transport manager of Dumfries-based Curries, agrees. "Hauliers are going to need proof for any future claims," he says. "It's about time someone did something— we can't let these French unions get away with it."
