• An application for an operator's licence by Williams and Long, of Tredegar, was granted by the LA in Cardiff on Thursday of last week.
Appearing before the court was Mr Howard Long, who said that he had, with Mr Tegwin Williams, purchased two vehicles from Mr W. T. Crumb. of Merthyr, and they were applying for an operator's licence for the two six-wheel tippers and an extra vehicle if required.
He said this was their first venture into the haulage business and as he was a qualified motor mechanic he would be able to keep an eye on the condition of the vehicles. They had also entered into a contract with Bounds Ltd, of Caerphilly, for the vehicles to be serviced every 4000 miles.
Mr Long said they had a contract with Hobbs Quarries and he was fully aware of the requirements of keeping records' and the number of hours drivers were allowed.
In granting the licence Mr R. R. Jackson said that he would restrict the licence to the two vehicles now in their possession for one year with no margin.
