Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NONV that the Ford Model T is out of production, the well-known makers of proprietary accessories for use with this make of vehicle have had, in many cases, to design new equipment for the Model A. In this connection, J. W. Piekavant and Co., Ltd., Granville Street, Birmingham, the manufacturer of Quikko accessories, has lately introduced a tipping gear expressly for use with bodies fitted to the new 30-cwt. Ford chassis.

The new Quikko hand gear is claimed to, be easy in operation and particularly well balanced, it being arranged so that the greater leverage is obtained exactly s when it is needed, namely, at the commencement of the lift. Our accompanying reproduction shows that the gear is simple, yet ingenious, in design. The two arms, which raise the body, are hinged just below their centres and arranged so that they can be extended by meal% of two strong nuts, which bear against their lower sections and which run on the threaded sections of the transverse driving shaft. The nuts are pinned on both sides, so as to engage guides provided in the lower sections of the main arms. The tipper ends of these arms terminate in a form of

bracket which bears against the body, whilst the lower ends are hinged, as it were, to the two arms of an inverted V-shaped piece which is supported on the driving shaft. Steel is used throughout for the construction of the gear, it being claimed to be unaffected by road shocks andto be practically proof against breakage. Owing to its simple design, we should imagine that it is easy to fit ; it is stated, in fact, that this operation can be performed in an hour or so, only a simple alteration to the chassis being necessary. The strength of this Quikko appliance should make a particular appeal to those Ford users whose vehicles have to operate under conditions which are unusually arduous for light machines. A further point in this direction is the lightness of the gear, which is specially designed so that it cannot jam in any normal circumstances.

No body space is-taken up when this gear is fitted, the body being firmly held when in the lowered position. The load can likewise be supported in any desired intermediate pesition, there being no danger of the body suddenly falling back on to its bearers. Supplied complete with winding handle and the necessary parts for fitting the gear on the vehicle, the model suitable for the 30-cwt. Ford sells at the attractive figure of £7 15s.
