• A South Yorkshire man's five-year prison sentence for dismantling stolen trucks was "well merited", says the Criminal Appeal Court.

Thomas Wilson, 28, of Muscroft Lane, Hatfield Woodhouse, near Doncaster, was jailed in April by Hull Crown Court after being convicted of conspiring to handle stolen trucks and parts.

Wilson was also sentenced to one year to run concurrently after he admitted handling a stolen caravan, and he was ordered to forfeit a shotgun and two trucks.

Leeds Recorder Judge David Savill, sitting with Lord Justice Smith and Mr Justice Ian Kennedy, said: "Wilson's renewed application for leave to appeal against sentence is refused. The sentence was severe but well-merited, not wrong in principle or manifestly excessive."
