• Commercial vehicle registrations fell to 26,173 last month — down 12.02% from October 1988.
lveco Ford continues to lead the field at 3.5 tonnes and above, registering 13,699 vehicles this year (down 2% on January-October last year). Second-placed Leyland Daf has also recorded a small (1%) reduction with 12,989.
Mercedes-Benz and Volvo continue in third and fourth place respectively. The German marque has won an 8.8% rise in registrations this year (to 9.564). Volvo registrations have risen by 9.5% (6,400).
Despite a four-day week, ERF's registrations are at record levels, overtaking Renault to take a 6.1% share of the market over 3.5 tonnes.
Renault is still fighting to stem the fall in its registrations. They fell 7.5% on the same period last year — the company is relying on the new Midliner to boost its market share of just 5.9%.
Scania has managed a 22% increase in UK registrations this year (to 3,313). MAN and Seddon Atkinson registrations are up slightly and Foden's are up by 17.g%.

So far this year the Transit accounts for 47% of registrations in this sector, compared with 9.7% for the Leyland Daf 200 and 400 Series, and 7.9% for Renault's Trafic and Master. Mercedes-Benz holds fourth place (8,268), ahead of Bedford (7.589).
