• West Midlands haulier Renwick Group is negotiating a joint venture contract with the "European division of a worldwide group". Director Philip Holmes expects to finalise a deal in January: "We're not in Europe at all, and they're not in the UK," he says, "so this would consolidate things for both of us."

Renwick is also stepping up the pace of its acquisition programme with the imminent addition of two businesses to the group, one in the West Midlands area and the other in Felixstowe. Both deals should be completed by December.

A single holding company has been formed from its two groups, Allied Transport Holdings and Renwick Group. Three depots will be relocated in areas where both groups had depots close to each other. The unified group runs about 750 vehicles and last year's turnover was in the region of £18 million. LI Renwicks, which recently bought 14 Mercedes 24-29 38tonne tractive units, plans to order 25 more Mercedes in January. It is standardising on to two minal cabotage plan in 1985 but was withdrawn after some countries, including Britain, claimed there was no real foreign threat. The proposals to re-introduce such restrictions have been demanded by the French.
