PERM independent Stagecoach was fined ti800 when it appeared before Perth Sheriffs court accused of drivers' hours offences.
The company admitted four offences of permitting drivers to remain on duty for longer than the statutory maximum of 16 hours. Pleas of not guilty to a further 12 similar offences were accepted by the prosecution.
lkputy fiscal John Kirk said that in one case a driver had exceeded the 16-hour day by 22 hours, resulting in a working day of 38 hours spread over two days.
Apart from one instance, the laid down driving limits had been exceeded, but the drivers had still been on duty between trips uni could have been called on to drive at any time when their skill could have been affected by having taken insufficient rest.
