.1HE BUS and Coach Council took its late bid to amend the EEC drivers' hours review to the Department of 'Fransport this week in an effort to alter the outcome of next week's EEC Ministers' meeting.

It is looking for a better deal on rest periods and for relaxation of the proposed restriction of drivers to six consecutive days' work.

BCC director-general Denis Quin has already dismissed the review as "bureaucracy gone 'mad-. but stressed at this week's meeting the need for a better package of rules.

He said he was sure that the British delegation would stress die BCC view which is shared by bus and coach operators throughout Western Europe but admitted to being "not over optimistic" about the outcome.

"We are likely to get something that is unworkable. Truly, we want good legislation that can be well enforced.
