A successful meeting of hauliers was held at Newport, Isle of Wight, on Saturday last, when the organizing officer of the Road Haulage Association, Mr. George A. Hotter, addressed the meeting, at the close of which it was announced that 35 members had joined the Association. Keen interest was taken in the proceedings, and a committee was formed, with Mr. A. W. Bull as chairman, one of the first duties with which it was charged being the appointment of a rates committee.

Mr. R. S. Anderson, a divisional organizer of the R.H.A., has, during the past few days, visited most of the hauliers in the island and, by the end of this week, it is anticipated that the membership will represent over 75 per cent, of those eligible to join the Association. For its size, the island possesses many persons who have obtained hauliers' licences, the figure being about 70, of whom over 50 were present at the meeting.

Maker Provides New Housing Estate.

The decision of Dennis Bros., Ltd., to manufacture its engines at the Guildford works, instead of at its Coventry factory, has resulted in an increase in the number of workmen employed at Guildford. The scarcity of suitable houses in the district has been met by a scheme promoted by the directors of the company, providing 100 houses for the employees.

The site is large enough for 200 houses, but it is expected that 100 will meet immediate needs.
