has bought Chichester-based AE Parker Warehousing and Distribution in a deal that creates a haulier with 500 staff, 200 trucks, 225 trailers and 300,000ft2 of warehousing.

Pall-Ex and fellow Partneri ink member AE Parker, which will continue to trade under its own name, is a family-owned haulage and storage business that has been operating for more than 75 years. Its distribution network covers the UK, with partners in Ireland and on the Continent.

Knights of Old group director Mike Bacon said: "Due to AE Parker's location and enviable reputation in the area, we are confident that this acquisi tion will strengthen our operations and enhance our range of services."

The news came as Knights of Old paid tribute to its former chairman Donald Knight, who died last week (2 May). Knight was found dead in his home in Loddington, Northants, alongside his wife Margaret. A spokesman said: "We would like to pay tribute to the family name, which we continue to trade under." He added that Knight was the third generation of his family to head Knights of Old and held the position of chairman until a management buyout, when he retired 15 years ago. "They will be sadly missed in the community," he added.
