Regarding the article on the recent failure of the National Owner Drivers Association (CM 25 April -1 May). Far from "being reluctant to allow the selfemployed to join", as
suggested in the article, we here at the United Road Transport Union (URTU) welcome owner-drivers into membership and offer dedicated benefits and services to the growing number of selfemployed drivers who have been steadily joining our union over the past two years.
On behalf of the URTU I have recently been in talks Mick Binns. with Mick Binns from NODA as well as members of their national committee to discuss just how the interests of NODA members can best be represented and protected.
It quickly became apparent to both Mick and myself that the URTU is the ideal organisation to continue the good work of the association. Mike Billingham, URTL Northampton.
