Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Bryan Jarvis • Faun Municipal Vehicles will not be exhibiting its wares at this year's Institute of Waste Management show in June. Instead the company has launched a range of new products at its Beaumaris, Anglesey factory before an invited audience of 300 existing and potential clients.

They were shown new products including a vertically splitbodied SelectaPress for recycling waste and a German-registered Mercedes 2524 6x2 with hydraulic rear steer fitted with a SidePress for one-man operation.

The factory demonstration also featured a TopPress concept vehicle for UK use based on a Dennis Elite chassis, with a beefed-up EuroPrws on a Mere 2527 for handling industri al waste in bins or skips. Both were 6x2s with long-link second-steer axles.

Seddon Atkinson used the open day to announce its latest Euro-2 Pacer-cabbed 14-tonners for the municipal market: the M14.160B and the narrow tracked N14.160B. Both are powered by the 160hp (118kW) Cummins B-Series with Allison MD3060 or 4106A auto gearboxes with 3.2m and 3.4m wheelbases.

Jack Allen is bodying the first prototype and PDE Geesink (formerly Lacre PDE) is taking the next one.

The new range will make its show debut at the Institute of Municipal Transport vehicle and plant event at Perry Barr. Birmingham on 10-11 September.

• Faun has refined its RotaPress 2000 which boosts a very short rear overhang (even with the Terberg bin lifter) and has only three moving ports: the rotary drum and the hydraulic pump and motor. This one's based on a Dennis Elite 6x4 with rubber rear suspension.

• Used in Germany on demount operations, Faun's TopPress on a Dennis longsecond-steer 6x2 chassis is a concept as far as the UK goes. The front end loader packs the rear section, which is swapped for an empty box. Dennis's three-seat cab has a scissor door on the nearside for clear access.

• Faun's new twinpack SelectaPress has a 1/3-2/3 vertically split body that separates recyclable from general waste. It is based on a Leyland NA long steering FAG75-270 6x2 with O portcullis-type wall that allows it to be used independently of the larger section. (Inset) ) The smaller trapdoor locks in the upright position to empty the smaller section. • Light refuse requires a bigger box so Faun's CityPress has an oversize body system suitable for 17-tonners. Complete with Otto bin lift, it looks rather out of proportion on this Mercedes 1624.
