The Institute of Road Transport Engineers takes over Telford for its 27th annual Exhibition and Conference next week. As usual the show will be brimming with new products from tyres to tachographs and brakes to bodywork...

by John Kendall 111 Isuzu has chosen Telford as the launch pad for its Leyland Trucks-built N-Series range of light trucks (CM 11-17 January 1996), The 3.5 and 6.2-tonners will be unveiled following a traditional Japanese Kagamirawi ceremony.

Seddon Atkinson is the latest truck manufacturer to offer the Cummins Mll engine. The Oldham manufacturer will display a 4x2 Strato tractive unit with Ml! 340hp engine and Eaton S-series synchromesh gearbox. The Rockwell axles gets a 3.91:1 final drive to accommodate the overdrive gearbox. The Strato tractor shares the stand with a 12rn long crewcabbed cone laying vehicle.

Another small British truck builder will also be displaying new products.

Eagle will show its Elite Utility vehicle,

ordered by North-West 'Water. Equipped with the Elite crew cab on a 17-tonne chas-ii:, it also carries an Atlas crane with clam-shell bucket loader, tipper body and large tool chest. It shares the Telford stand with a shunting vehicle based on the Elite chassis—Dennis Eagle's first venture into this market.

New tyres will be on show at Telford too. Continental will display its Eco-Plus range of heavy truck tyres for the first time in the UK. Designed for 22.5 in rims, the Eco-plus is available as a steer. drive and trailer axle tyre.

Also on show will be two ranges of 75-profile light truck tyres. The Uniroyal R2000i

T6000 17.5in and Semperit M434/M470 are both available as steer and drive axle covers.

Re-tread manufacturer Bandvulc will launch two new tyres at IRTE. A new 385/65 22.5in wide single with 16mm tread depth is designed for trailer or tractor wide-single use by urban delivery operators. A higher profile 295/80 22.5 will also be featured: it's designed for tractor and rigid drive axles with a tread depth of 23mm.

Sprayflap manufacturer Boydell and Jacks will launch a new range of its Featherwing sprayflaps. The company claims that it is a revolutionary development in spray flaps that could save operators thousands of pounds a year.

French reefer trailer builder Chereau will he represented at Telford by its UK concessionaire TCT. New to the UK market will be a lightweight friaxle semi-trailer equipped with a Thermoking SMX 50 refrigeration unit and lightweight hightensile steel Don-Bur fabricated chassis. It weighs in at 8,600kg.

Trailer equipment manufacturer Henderson will use IRTE to gauge operator reaction to a prototype addition to its FlexiPlus insulated bulkhead range. Made from lightweight insulated sections, it will be available in a range of heights. Henderson's range of shutters, bulkheads and cargo restraining systems will also be on show.

Other on-board equipment manufacturers will display a variety of new products at Telford. Zeta Controls will show the Z500 electronic control box for on-board power systems. It was designed for specialist vehicles requiring a single integrated control system. The system is also available with an anti-theft feature.

TV! Europe will launch a tachograph recorder for use in conjunction with a conventional chart recorder. The car radiosized system records driver hours and offers other functions including signalling the driver at the end of a permitted dri ving period and indica. required rest period.
