• Owners of newly privatised bus companies have made millions of pounds by selling off bus stations and garages for shopping developments, says a new Government report.
The Commons Public Accounts Committee which compiled the report has been told that Tayside-based Stagecoach, which took over Cumberland Motor Services, has either sold or is about to sell several sites for development.
MPs were told that the Keswick bus station, valued at £55,000 by the Government, was subsequently sold for £750,000.
